Water Intake

As summer continues and the heat ramps up, we must remember to keep drinking plenty of water. Water is very important for our bodies for many different functions, but we especially need to remember this in the summer, when activity is high and the possibility of dehydration is high as well. I would like to remind all of you exactly why water is so important.

Water is essential for the functioning of our bodies. Water is your body's principal chemical component and makes up about 60 percent of your body weight. Every system in your body depends on water. For example, water flushes toxins out of vital organs, carries nutrients to your cells, and provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissues. Without it, our bodies don’t function as well and aren’t as efficient. This can cause us to feel less energized, tired, and bloated. With plenty of water, our bodies function as they should, much more efficiently. So if you ever questioned why you should be drinking plenty of water, now you know!

How much water should you drink per day? Lots. According to Mayo Clinic, it's a simple question with no easy answers. Studies have produced varying recommendations over the years, but in truth, your water needs depend on many factors, including your health, how active you are and where you live. But overall, they recommend 2-3 liters of water per day. Keep in mind that when you are doing a lot of physical activity, and sweating a lot, this should be increased.

So as summer continues, remember to always have a water bottle by your side with whatever activity you may be doing to ensure that your body is functioning properly!
